Lewis & Clark College has a wide range of books, manuscripts, and broadsides, by the late poet William Stafford, 1914-1993. Stafford was a nationally acclaimed poet, who taught at Lewis & Clark College for over thirty years.

These materials include the Carter Burden collection of William Stafford publications, which was purchased in 1999 by Lewis & Clark College with the assistance of an anonymous donor. This collection includes the majority of Stafford publications from major and regional presses up to 1988, usually first printings. Most of the items are signed. The collection also includes a representative selection of Stafford's eighty or so broadsides, and some of Stafford's teaching materials from Lewis & Clark College.
