Leadership Primer

An evening of training for students involved in clubs and organizations on campus. Training includes the nitty-gritty of how to plan events, goal setting, communication, and time management.

7pm Workshops:

Setting your Sights: Goal Setting for You and Your Organization
Whether you are starting out the year with a clear vision, or not sure what is to come, this session will help you define your goals and give you and your group something meaningful to work toward this year.

Movers and Shakers: Motivating Groups, Communication and Delegation

What's the secret to moving beyond talk to action? How do you generate excitement about and within your organization? We'll talk about some strategies that will help with this process.

The 25th Hour: How to Make the Most of Your Time
So, you've got a full load of classes, a job, and you want to join as many clubs as you have interests. Learn how to keep school in check AND have a life outside the library.

8pm Workshops:

Who are You? Learning Styles and Group Dynamics

Knowing how you learn and process information can help you when working with others. Come learn more about yourself and how being familiar with other styles can enhance communication within your group.

Beyond Movie Nights and Flyers: Event Planning and Successful Advertising
Everything you need to know about planning a campus event and getting people to attend. From room reservations to building traditions, there is something to gain for everyone.

Where Do I Go From Here? Marketing your Experience
So, you're wondering how to put your leadership experiences work. How can you market your experience to get you the internship, job or elected position you're after?

The Brown Bag Series of leadership workshops will provide an opportunity for self-discovery and reflection. Join LC alums, and members of the community for discussions on a variety of topics.

Gold Retreat
The GOLD Retreat (growth opportunities for leadership development) is designed for students who have demonstrated a committment to their community and who have begun to take on leadership roles on campus. The retreat provides participants with the opportunity to develop relationships with other students, learn about themselves and their potential and gain a greater understanding of leadership. The retreat takes place in March and the participants are nominated by Student Life staff.

Leadership Postions
Holding a leadership position on campus is a noteworthy experience and a great resume builder. Whether you want to participate in community service opportunities, run for office on your Hall Council, get involved with one of the many clubs and organizations on campus or just help plan activities with your fellow hallmates, you are helping to make your community a better place. Talk to your RA, your RD, or a member of the Student Life staff about how you can get involved!
