Spring signup schedules for SMART are currently available in the CSAW office. Please stop by by January 26th to choose a spring semester reading time.
If
you are a new volunteer to the SMART program please fill out a SMART application
which is currently available in CSAW. If you are interested in participating
in this literacy program, please stop by the office to talk with us. This
is a weekly committment.
SMART readers
start the week of January 19th. Questions about your carpool can be directed
to Kelly Hoover in CSAW.
Drivers will be able to pick up directions to their SMART school in CSAW.
esl tutoring
CSAW will be working with LISTOS an Alternative High School for Latino Youth. LISTOS is located downtown and easily accessible by the shuttle and Tri-Met.

ALTERNATIVE SPRING BREAK APPLICATIONS
AVAILABLE IN CSAW!
This
year CSAW is sponsoring two Alternative Spring Break experiences. In addition
to our annual trip to San Francisco to work with the HIV/AIDS community,
we will be offering an in-depth look at Domestic Violence issues here
is Portland.
Applications for participation for both trips will be available through CSAW shortly after the start of spring semester. Please contact Brie Soares or Heath Williams regarding the San Francisco trip and Joleen Fuller for the Portland based trip.
What is Nightwatch? It's a drop-in center for the homeless where they can come and have a safe, warm place to spend a few hours playing games and a hot cup of coffee. We send volunteers to help at Nightwatch each Friday and Saturday evening. The Pioneer Express drops you just a few blocks away. It's a great way to spend your Friday (or Thursday or Saturday) night, great conversation and insight into homelessness issues. If you are interested, please contact Kelly Hoover.
Sign ups for hosting at Sunnyside Family Shelter are currently underway for fall. Lewis & Clark hosts the small family shelter in South East on Monday and Thursday nights from November through the end of March. Contact Kelly Hoover to sign up to host and for questions about getting involved.
