Jiro Mitsuda (12 at the time) was on his way to school, 1,200 meters from the hypocenter. He was burned on the upper half of his body and on his legs. On returning home, he helped to fight a fire. Five days after the bombing, he breathed his last, saying, "It's dard. Please put on the light...I need water. Buy me some ice cream...."
