Formerly a monument commemorating victory in the Russo-Japanese War, renamed Peace Tower after the Second World War, 2,400 meters from the hypocenter.

<at that time> age: 5; at home (1,500 meters from the hypocenter); mother and two sisters injured.

"At that moment I was in the kitchen. My elder sister was sweeping the garden. Mother was changing Hiroko's diapers." (written at age 12)

 

Monpe (Women's Work Pants)
Kimiko Nishimaru (15 at the time) was working in communication services under the Student Mobilizaion Order at the army's district headquarters, 800 meters from the hypocenter. Badly burned over her whole body, she crawled home and received treatment from her parents. She died, however, on August 12, 1945.
