Mrs. Kikuko Karahashi
age: 38; occupation: housewife; family: husband and two children
<at that time> age: 5; at home (2,000 meters from the hypocenter); mother, elder sister, and two elder broghers died; elder brother injured.

"The next morning my elder brothers woke me up and said, 'Mother is dead.' Surprised to hear that, I ran to Mother and called out to her. She made no sound. I became alarmed and called two or three times again. But it was no use. I just wept on Mother's chest." (written at age 11)

First-Aid Kit
Mariko Fujii (16 at the time) was doing fore prevention work 1,000 meters from the hypocenter. After a desperate search by her father, only her first-aid kit was found. In it were medicines and diapers for her younger brother. Her body was not found.
