Philosophy Club

Welcome to the official website of the Lewis and Clark Philosophy Club, a student-run organization whose main objective is to provide a comfortable, informal environment in which philosophy students and fans can discuss big ideas without getting funny looks.

Why Join?

  • Because you love talking about, thinking of, and being around philosophy
  • Because you have great ideas but do not feel comfortable expressing them in front of a classroom.
  • Because you want to meet peers who can challenge you intellectually and still be fun.
  • Because you would like to impress grad schools with your C.V.
  • Because you obsess over Charlie Kaufman screenplays.

News

  • Student Colloquia: This year the Philosophy Club has decided to organize an undergraduate colloquia series. The idea behind the series is to give students a structured, semi-formal place to present their work to peers--something like what one would expect at graduate school. Currently, the club is in the process of collecting and reviewing submissions. Any student interested in submitting a paper is encouraged to check out our CFP.
  • Peer Paper Review: Have you ever wanted to run ideas by someone before you turn in a paper? Every week the Philosophy Club will have a Peer Paper Review on the agenda. Just bring your paper to the Philosophy Club Meeting--we only ask that if you want your paper to be reviewed, you be willing to review one. We are also working on setting up a Moodle account, so you can post and review papers online throughout the week.
  • Opportunities for Student Scholarship: We are going to be tracking opportunities available for student scholarship, such as philosophy conferences, publications, and essay contests. Furthermore, the Lewis and Clark Philosophy Department honors the best papers with the William A. Rottschaefer Award for Excellence in Philosophical Scholarship--the highest award in philosophy and a cash prize.
