Television- The effect on American culture and society

I will discuss the immense effect television has on our society through looking at a variety of issues relating to how TV effects culture. I will look into such factors as violence, race, and sexism. How are theses issues portrayed in television and how do they effect our culture. What morals and values do television shows exemplify? I feel this topic is of major concern and importance because of the fact that I do not think the general public is aware of the incredibly immense impact television has on our culture. Television cannot simply be seen as an innocent form of mindless entertainment. Many people think television represents reality, and it is these people that are being so drastically harmed. Television is often a parent's baby-sitter. What effect does TV have on children? What do television shows teach children about morality? Does television influence the way people, especially youth, perceive the world? How do other countries perceive American culture due to the exposure of the media? Where does the abundance of stereotypes, fear and misinformation of other races come from? Yes, this disillusioned world is all due to that evil box know as television!
