English as a Second Language

The Institute for the Study of American Language and Culture (ISALC) is an intensive language training program for international students entering Lewis & Clark or preparing for other academic institutions or workplaces in the United States. The institute offers four levels of English language instruction and a fifth to prepare for academic transition. Courses cover areas such as novels, drama, films, business, U.S. studies, media, and TOEFL preparation. The ISALC also serves as a support system for international students by providing special activities and services: academic advising, friendship families, airport pickup, and American cultural outings.
