Campus Safety

First Aid Supplies

Build or buy a first aid kit:

Everyone over the age of 10 should have basic first aid training. The Red Cross and many fire departments hold classes for all age groups. Check and replenish first aid supplies at least once a year.

  • Latex gloves
  • Scissors & safety pins
  • Roller gauze and elastic bandages
  • Nonstick, sterile pads (different sizes)
  • Assorted bandaids
  • Triangle bandage
  • Aspirin or substitute*
  • Antibiotic ointment*
  • Current prescription medicines*
  • Tweezers/needle
  • Disinfectant (for cleaning wounds)*
  • Thermometer
  • Tongue depressors
  • Soap & clean cloth
  • Syrup of ipecac*
  • Small plastic cup
  • Eye dressing or pad
  • Pen and note paper
  • Emergency phone numbers
  • Red Cross first aid reference guide**

*Keep all medicines in original containers. Check expiration dates and replace as needed.

**First aid reference guides can be purchased from the American Red Cross.

Storing emergency supplies before a disaster can add to your family’s safety and comfort during a disaster. Store enough supplies for at least 72 hours.
