Anthony C. “Tony” Abena ’86
graduated from Lewis & Clark with a B.S. in international affairs. He received his M.B.A. in marketing from the University of Minnesota in 1993. While at Lewis & Clark, Mr. Abena served as Vice President for Student Academic Affairs Board (SAAB) in 1985 and led the creation of what is now the popular SAAB student tutoring program that provides tutoring services to fellow students. He states that his involvement with SAAB taught him the importance and value of collaboration and teamwork and that he quickly learned that focused, inspired teams working together toward common goals produce the best ideas, the most successful results and have the most fun doing it.
Tony currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Insite Software an early-stage e‑commerce software and data business that serves mid-market and enterprise branded manufacturers and wholesale distributors in the U.S. and Canada. He is the former Managing Director of Deloitte Investments, the internal venture capital fund and growth accelerator for Deloitte LLP, the world’s leading professional services firm. Tony is focused on acquiring, building and growing a market-leading portfolio of technology and “big data” businesses in the firm’s largest practices. Previously he served as President of the US Law Firm Division at Thomson West, the foremost provider of integrated information solutions to the U.S. legal market. He was responsible for developing strategy and launching new products and services throughout the United States for over 200,000 customers. Prior to joining Thomson West, Mr. Abena held a variety of executive roles at Gartner, the world’s leading IT research and advisory firm. He has co-founded and sold two technology startups. He currently sits on the boards of eight early-stage technology businesses.
Tony is married to Stacy (Manning) Abena ’88 who earned her B.A. in communication and reside in Minnesota with their four children.
