Trustee Biography: M. Carr Ferguson

Vice Chairman of the Lewis & Clark Board of Trustees Carr Ferguson is senior counsel in the New York law firm of Davis Polk & Wardwell, and a former U.S. Assistant Attorney General. He has taught at the University of Iowa College of Law, the New York University School of Law, and the Stanford University Law School. He is the author of two books and numerous articles on tax law and frequently lectures to federal tax institutes and bar groups.

Mr. Ferguson received his Bachelor’s degree and L.L.B. from Cornell University and his L.L.M. from New York University.

Mr. Ferguson has chaired the American Bar Association Tax Section. He served on the New York State Bar Association Tax Section, and is a former Special Consultant to the U.S. Department of Justice and the Secretary of the Treasury of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. He is a member of the American Law Institute, a trustee of New York University Law School, and serves on the Council and Visiting Committee of Cornell University Law School. He has been honored as the Higgins Distinguished Visitor at the Northwestern School of Law of Lewis & Clark College and as an honorary alumnus of the School. Mr. Ferguson is a member of the Order of the Coif and Phi Delta Phi.

Mr. Ferguson and his wife, Marian, live in New York City and have four grown daughters.
