Trustee Biography: Kenneth M. Novack
Ken Novack is Chairman of Schnitzer Steel Industries, Inc. (NASDQ:SCHN), which is engaged in the metals recycling, steel manufacturing and auto parts business; Chairman of Liberty Maritime Corp., an ocean shipping concern; and Chairman of Schnitzer Investment Corp., a real estate development and investment firm. Prior to accepting his present positions, he was a partner in the law firm of Ball Janik & Novack (1982-1991). He serves on the boards of Schnitzer Steel Industries, Liberty Shipping Group, Schnitzer Investment Corp., the Oregon Business Council, Genesis Financial Corp., Eisenhower Medical Center (Rancho Mirage, CA), Kravis Leadership Institute, The Lowe Institute for Political Economy, Claremont McKenna College and The Reserve Club. Mr. Novack has previously been an adjunct professor at the Lewis & Clark Law School.
Mr. Novack received his B.A., cum laude, in 1967 from Claremont Men's College and his J.D. from the University of Southern California in 1970. He is a member of the Order of the Coif.
Mr. Novack has given his time and energy to the Portland community by serving on the boards of Doernbecher Children's Hospital, Oregon Health & Science University, the Portland Art Association, the Columbia River Maritime Museum and Marylhurst University. He has also been the chairman of the Metropolitan Arts Commission, the Oregon Youth Services Commission and has served as Chairman of the Portland Business Alliance.
Ken is married to Deborah Novack and has two grown children, Melanie and Kevin.
