Ron Timpe ’61
Ron Timpe is a former director of StanCorp Financial Group (retired May, 2012), and served as chair of the board of directors and its principal subsidiary, Standard Insurance Company. He was president and chief executive officer of Standard Insurance Company and, upon its formation in 1998, StanCorp Financial Group, Inc. Ron began his career at Standard Insurance Company as an assistant actuary and subsequently served as assistant vice president and actuary, Individual Insurance; vice president, Group Pensions; and senior vice president, Group Insurance and Corporate Financial Services. Mr. Timpe served in the United States Army National Guard.
Mr. Timpe currently serves as a senior director of the Oregon Business Council and as a trustee of the Oregon Health & Science University Foundation. He has long been an active community leader, and previously served as president of the Cascade Pacific Council of the Boy Scouts of America; a member of the Portland State University Advisory Board, and a trustee of Willamette University. Mr. Timpe was a director of the Portland Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and has served on the boards of Waverly Children’s Home, Goodwill Industries of the Columbia Willamette, Oregon Independent College Foundation and the Oregon Symphony.
Mr. Timpe received a B.S. in mathematics from Lewis & Clark in 1961 and completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School in 1990.
Ron and his wife, Ivy, reside in Portland.
