KARI GREENE:

How often in your life do you get the opportunity to witness a profound and lasting positive change in someone? As a Tulen self defense instructor, I have the chance to see that kind of transformation every time I take part in a self defense course. And these personal changes will have a ripple effect throughout our world – women calmly and confidently moving through their lives, kids knowing they have the right to say “no” and teen girls proudly using their voices to keep themselves safe. What a wonderful world!!! I’ve been an instructor in the kids program for over five years (I play a mean game of freeze tag!) and am a first degree black belt. I do research and evaluation for the Oregon Public Health Division, and I love spending time running with my dogs through the woods, cooking up a big meal, and singing at the top of my lungs.

HEATHER HERNANDEZ:

As a martial artist and self-defense instructor, I nurture my passion for empowering and developing people. A strong advocate of breaking down fear barriers, I believe that ordinary people are capable or extraordinary things and bring that core value into everything I do. In addition to teaching self-defense, my professional life has been spent leading and developing people in various venues. As a former executive coach and certified coach trainer, I spent years training and empowering professional coaches to reach their potential with their clients, as well as helped hundreds of my own clients achieve their personal and professional goals. As a whitewater river guide and trip leader, I’ve trained and supervised groups of people down some of the most hazardous class V whitewater in the world. Currently, I am completing my doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology, with a focus on achieving mental health through mind / body / spirit practices. My study of the psychology behind the mind / body connection enriches my practice as a self-defense instructor. When not training Poekoelan Tjimindie Tulen or teaching self-defense, you will find me living my passion on the river whitewater kayaking or river guiding.

GREG SHUSTER:

Greg has been teaching bouldering for several years and currently coaches The Circuit's Climbing Team. He has a natural love for bouldering, and enjoys the opportunity to share that passion with others. He also sets routes, working to create fun movement that climbers will find interesting and enjoyable. Greg has experienced many of the best climbing areas in the United States, which has inspired him to take on new climbing challenges. He works hard to develop the strength and technique required to keep pushing his limits by bouldering in the gym as well as outside. Greg believes, “Whatever your ability level may be, climbing requires that you push your limits mentally as well as physically. Most importantly, you must have the drive to get up to the top of a boulder, you will not get up there by accident. When the moves feel too hard, you have to rely on your indomitable will.”
