Sustainable Portland
There is no better place in the United States to be a part of sustainable living than Portland.
In 1993 Portland was the first city to adopt Kyoto protocols; the city has maintained 1990 carbon dioxide levels while growing over the past 19 years. Per capita, the average Portlander produces 13% less carbon dioxide than he or she did 19 years ago. Throughout the rest of the country, that number has increased by 13%.
Portland is home to a world-recognized transportation network, making travelling without a car a pleasant and quick option.
In 2008 Portland was the first major city to receive a Platinum Rating for bike friendly community by the League of American Bicyclists. Sustainability is an integral part of the city development process.
The local Portland Tribune has a section about sustainable living in Portland. Check here for information about local news, activities, and guides. The Portland Tribune's Sustainable Life
