Art 225: Special Topics: Painting Hybrids
TBA, Fall 2009
Fields 302
Professor Cara Tomlinson
This course examines painting as an extended practice through an examination of the relationship between drawing and painting, sculpture and painting, installation and painting, and conceptual art and painting. We will expand definitions of painting to include a large variety of media, methodologies, practices, and technologies. Students will be exposed to and work with many contemporary artworks as well as identify historical precedents. When is something a painting? When is it not a painting? Does it matter?
