The Kent Swanson Jr. Memorial Scholarship for Ceramics

Kent Philip Swanson Jr. attended Lewis & Clark College from 1990 to 1995, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree. He loved nature and was an avid environmentalist, mountain climber, backpacker, and cross-country skier. At Lewis & Clark, Kent merged ecology with ceramic artistry, developing glazes that contained wood ash and often incorporating botanical images in his inspired works.

After graduating, he worked as a mountain-climbing guide and a ski-patrol member, while participating in an avalanche-training program in 1997, Kent died tragically in a helicopter crash.

Kent's parents established the Kent Swanson Jr. Memorial Scholarship for Ceramics in honor of their son. It is awarded to individuals with interests and enthusiasm similar to Kent's.
