Study Abroad

Hispanic Studies majors have many options to satisfy the requirement for overseas study (one semester or full year). Study abroad is the most effective way to improve language skills and learn to "live the culture." Students may choose any of the following, or combine two programs for a full year, if desired:

1. Valparaiso, Chile: Language-intensive program (Fall/Spring/Full Year). Homestay with Chilean host families plus academic program at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valpara'so (PUCV) . Prerequisites: Grade point average of 3.0 in language; completion of SPAN 321 or equivalent.

2. Santiago, Chile: Language-intensive program (Fall/Spring/Full Year). Homestay with Chilean host families plus academic program at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and/or the Universidad de Chile. Prerequisites: Grade point average of 3.0 in language; completion of SPAN 321 or equivalent.

3. Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic: Language-intensive program (Fall/Spring/Full Year). Homestay with Dominican host families plus academic program at El Bonó, UASD, and INTEC and/or FLACSO. Students complete a practicum in a community service setting as an integral part of their program. Prerequisites: Grade point average of 3.0 in language; completion of SPAN 321 or equivalent.

4. León, Spain: Language-intensive program (Spring/Full-year). Homestay with Spanish families and academic program at the Centro de Idiomas & Culturas Españolas and the Universidad de León. Prerequisites: Grade point average of 3.0 in language; completion of SPAN 321 or equivalent.
