CHIN 230: Bones to Blossoms: Chinese Literature from Earliest Time to the Tang Dynasty
Chinese 230 will introduce students to Chinese Literature in translation from the earliest times (1100 B.C.) to the great flourishing of literary production in the Tang Dynasty (618-906). Through readings, lectures and classroom discussion you will gain an understanding of pre-modern literary creation in China, and by extension the historical and cultural settings from which the literature arose. Also, students will be challenged to critically evaluate the literature on its own merits, apart from its value as historical or cultural artifact.
