Dr. Nisha Joshi is the director of Swaranjali Academy of Indian Music. She was born and raised in the state of Rajasthan. Her father was a music enthusiast who encouraged his five children to study music and dance.  Nisha grew up studying North Indian classical music, in addition to folk songs and dances of Rajasthan. She earned her PhD in North Indian classical vocal music from Delhi University, where she later taught.  In 1984, she moved to the United States, first settling in Norman, Oklahoma, then Seattle, Washington, and finally in Portland, Oregon in 1991 where she currently resides.  Dr. Joshi has taught Indian music to elementary through college-level students for over 25 years.
