Peter Christenson
Professor of Communication
Professional Biography
Peter grew up in Eugene, Oregon, home of the University of Oregon, and still travels down to Eugene to see his beloved Ducks lose (and occasionally win) football games. He went to college at Dartmouth and received his Ph.D. from Stanford. His research interests surround the impact of media on children and adolescents. He is an avid amateur meteorologist and much prefers bad weather to good. Other passions include golf, backpacking, and music (he plays blues harp and trumpet in a number of mediocre bands). He does enough yard work to keep from shaming the Beaverton neighborhood where he lives with his lovely wife Lilia.
Publications
Peter has published a number of articles, books, and reports including "The Multicultural Implications of Popular Music" (with Tom ter Bogt, in The Sage Handbook of Child Development, Multiculturalism, and Media, 2008), It's Not Only Rock and Roll--Popular Music in the Lives of Adolescents (with Don Roberts: Hampton Press, 1998), Substance Abuse in Popular Movies and Music, Substance Use in Popular Music Videos (2002), and Prime Time Teens (2004).
