Admissions Intern '09-'10

Junior year!

Yikes.

I can’t believe that I am already halfway through college. Time is flying by way too fast for me, but at the moment I am enjoying every second of my exciting, busy, challenging and fun-filled life.

I grew up in two places, the first being Ridgecrest, California (for those of you who don’t know where that is, just look up Death Valley on a map and you’ll get the idea). I lived there until I was 12 and then I moved to North Bend, Oregon (a small town on the coast with about 9,000 people) for the rest of middle school and high school. It was quite a switch from 125 degree summers to constant calm rain and cloudy skies. Coming to Portland for school was also quite a bit of a change being a far cry from living in such a small town, but I quickly learned to love the big city with all of its amazing restaurants, coffee shops, massive bookstores (Powells!) and it’s seemingly unlimited music scene. This year I ended up getting a single in Howard Hall, which is turning out to be absolutely wonderful. I live in my favorite complex on campus (Platt-Howard) alongside many of my friends who are only a few doors away.

So far, I’ve had a pretty unbelievable college experience. Some of the many highlights from the past two years have included classes taught by unforgettable professors, being a member of an outstanding student-run a cappella group called Momo and the Coop (you can see us perform here at, http://www.youtube.com/user/laurennoni), going abroad on a Mayan archaeology and Spanish intensive summer program to Mérida, México, having a very active role in the theater community, having a blast working for the admissions department and making connections with people I’m sure I will know for the rest of my life. While choosing to pursue a double major curriculum at LC (Anthropology and Theatre) has been difficult (so so much reading), it keeps me busy and on my toes; because that’s the way I like it! I also have many things to look forward to in the following two years including my Lewis and Clark foreign exchange trip to London in the spring of 2010 where I will study Music, Theatre, Art and British culture! Not to mention senior year and my theses. I’m hoping that I can do some field work research in London during my time there for my Anthropology thesis and also get some ideas for the show I need to direct for the Theatre department. But until then, I’m looking forward to having an AMAZING semester with classes and being an intern before shipping out to go across the pond!
