Admissions Intern '09-'10
Hey there! I’m originally from Westfield, New Jersey, but every year I find myself more and more engulfed in the AMAZING Portland community. After driving my car across the USA from Jersey I spent all summer here working as a nanny close by to school and taking advantage of the outdoors. While I’m pretty bummed the summer and sunshine is coming to an end I’m also looking forward to starting school again. I’m about to start my final year here at Lewis and Clark, and there’s no doubt it’ll be a bittersweet farewell.
I’m an Art History major and a Latin American Studies minor. I spent the Fall of 2008 abroad in Valparaíso, Chile. I was enrolled in a Chilean university, but also had the opportunity to do quite a bit of traveling throughout the semester which was mind blowing. I hope to go back and possibly teach English over there after graduation.
My favorite parts about Lewis and Clark are the incredible friends I’ve made, inspiring professors I’ve had the opportunity to get to know and work with, and all of the funky excitement Portland has to be discover. Even as I enter my 4th year of living in this special city I am finding new parts to explore. I love to go to Last Thursday on Albertra St. and First Thursday in the Pearl District to admire and get inspired by the art and good vibes. I like to ride my bike downtown to the Saturday Market on the waterfront on the weekends and pick up some locally grown veggies at the Farmer’s Market on Saturday mornings. I also love to go to the bouldering gym and get some climbing in (I actually got started climbing with the LC PE Rock Climbing class)!
Aside from working as an Admissions Intern I give campus tours and I’m involved in a volunteer program called SMART (Start Making A Reader Today) where I read with 1st graders at an elementary school near by. When I'm not busy memorizing hundreds of art history note cards you can find me hanging out on campus, at shows downtown, rock climbing, roller blading (I got my roller blades for 3 dollars at a thrift school in SE Portland….SIIIIICK), carving soap sculptures, drawing, or painting my nails… among other things...
My advice to prospective students is to follow your heart and do what feels right. Try new things, meet new people, push your limits, and HAVE FUN!!!
Feel free to send me an e-mail if you have questions or just want to chat with a real live Lewis and Clark student like me!
Cheers fellow chillers!
