Tour Guides

Tour guides will give you a chance to have an informal discussion with students over a meal at the Bón.  This Fall, tours are available Monday-Saturday, beginning Monday, September 14th until Wednesday, December 23rd.

Serena Ancheta '12

Serena is and international affairs major and political science minor from Idyllwild, CA. She is interested in dance, swimming, kayaking, and hiking. She has joined the new dance team which has performed skits during half time of sporting events. One of her favorite things about Lewis & Clark is the campus itself. You must "find the school that makes you feel happy and where you feel comfortable and at ease. You'll know where you belong."

Lauren is a Computer Science and Mathematics major from Bloomington, Indiana. She is very active on campus as a member of the Juggling Club, Capella Nova, Momo and the Coop (one of our a capella groups), Dance Extravaganza, and performer in Once Upon a Weekend with our theater department.

Jenny is an International Affairs major and an Economics minor from San Francisco, CA. She is the captain and organizer of the Women’s Lacrosse Club and is on the International Affairs Symposium Steering committee. She likes snowboarding, yoga, and music, taking advantage of the campus's close proximity to Portland, where she can catch concerts and shows that come through. If that is not enough incentive to go downtown, Jenny is also an advocate of the many restaurants that can be found downtown!

Jazz is a sophomore psychology major from Anchorage, AK. Portland was a draw for her coming to Lewis & Clark. She "really enjoys going to First Thursdays at the art galleries downtown [in the Pearl District], as well as going to the Saturday Market and Voodoo Doughnuts." Jazz is also interested in women's rugby and rock climbing, not to mention traveling, hiking, and baking. Food for thought for prospective students: "Try the food in the dining hall!"

 

 

 

 

Maisha Foster-O'Neal '11

Maisha is a sophomore sociology/anthropology major, gender studies minor from Portland, OR. She leads the Unisex group and is a member of the Womyns center. You can also find her poetry slamming or snapping black and white photographs. Volunteering in Portland is one of her loves. She likes working for organizations like Cascade AIDS Project and Sexual Minority Youth Resource Center (SMYRC).

Caitlin is a junior, Psychology major from Wichita, KS and Arnold, CA. She’s interested in child development, babysitting around campus, and hanging out with her amazing roommates in her amazing apartment! Caitlin works in the Admissions Office as a student assistant and is a self-diagnosed A Cappella groupie… She has one piece of advice for prospective students: "Give each type of college an equal opportunity to win your heart. Visit! Listen to your gut. You'll know the right place for you when you find it."

 

Katherine Itz '10

Katherine is double majoring in art history and Hispanic studies. As a native from Westfield, NJ, she has traveled across the country to Lewis & Clark for the people. She volunteers with SMART (Start Making a Reader Today) and at the Co-op, the student-run coffee shop on campus. She enjoys art projects and collaging, as well as rock climbing and bouldering. Last year she traveled south to Valparaiso, Chile with the overseas program.

Krissy is a probably biology or psychology major originally from Gilbert, AZ. She enjoys hiking, kayaking, and snorkeling, while participating on the dance and rugby teams. Her favorite thing about Lewis & Clark is the community: "everyone is friendly and there's always someone willing to help you with your biology homework or go downtown to get something to eat." She advises prospective students to :ask any questions you have, visit as many colleges as you can, and don't worry. You'll find the right college for you!"

Samantha is a Psychology major from Mission Viejo, CA. In addition to working as a tour guide, Samantha is involved with LINCS (Lewis & Clark Intercultural Network for Connecting Students), SMART (Start Making a Reader Today), and tutoring at Roosevelt Elementary School, a local public school. She likes concerts, tennis, volunteering and tutoring, as well as being outdoors. Her favorite thing about Lewis & Clark is how easy it is to join clubs and get involved in activities. "I’ve really expanded my horizons since being a student here, and I’m very thankful for that."

 

 

Shanti Odell '09

Shanti wants to be a teacher, so for the past few years she has spent much of her time working and volunteering in classrooms around Portland. She's a Sociology/Anthropology and a board member for student support services. Originally from Portland, she loves studying and people-watching in Pioneer Square, browsing through Powell's bookstore, and shopping at second-hand clothing stores. She has a few words of wisdom to all prospective students: "Finding a school with amazing professors who take the time to get to know you makes all the difference. Don't be afraid to talk to your professors, they can become very good friends."

 

Keith Oster '11

Keith is a Communications major from Alamo, CA. He credits Portland's music and arts scene for making his transition from the bay area rather smooth. "It is also close to a lot of wilderness and skiing," which cater towards Keith's interests in skiing, biking, and traveling.

 

Dylan Peden '10

Dylan is a junior mathematics major and music minor from West Richland, WA. He is primarily interested in music, traveling, theater, frisbee, and coffee. He is a member of Section Line Drive (an a cappella group), Cappella Nova (Lewis & Clark's choir), while taking part in theater productions and tutoring for the math department. He traveled abroad to London last spring with the overseas program, where he got his fill of music and the arts. He advises prospective students to trust their instincts. "L&C felt like the right place for me; if somewhere really feels like the right place to you, it is probably a place you would really fit in." Portland is also a city that suits Dylan. He enjoys "biking downtown and studying at coffee shops" or "going to see a concert/play/movie at one of Portland's many interesting venues."

Jen is a tentative International Affairs major from Bettendorf, Iowa. She enjoys disc golf, good books, Mario Kart and the board game Settlers of Catan. One of her favorite things to do in Portland is head down to Powell’s City of Books for a quick and quiet retreat. She says "Portland is not too big or too small. You can meet all sorts of quirky people!"

Leah is an Economics and Foreign Languages double major. She's also a volunteer at Operation Nightwatch (a Portland hospitality center), the SAAB Tutoring Director and a SAAB German Tutor, a Campus LINCS (Lewis & Clark Intercultural Network for Connecting Students) Mentor, the treasurer for the Croquet Society, part of the Spanish, French and German Clubs, a member of The Merry Weathers (Lewis & Clark’s women’s a cappella group) and also a member of the school choral ensemble, Cappella Nova! When we asked what is her favorite thing about Lewis & Clark College, she said, "[It's] actually an impossible question but I’ll try: I often find myself walking across campus with a huge grin on my face because I’m thinking of how exciting my courses are, of my fantastic friends or of how beautiful LC is. I love these moments!"

Liz is a sophomore French major from Madison, WI. She likes to read and play the violin. Liz is a French tutor and a conversation group leader for French 101 students. Her favorite thing about Lewis & Clark is the sense of community. "Because it is such a small school, I feel like everyone can be friendly with one another." She recommends to high school seniors "to visit as many college as possible because when it comes time to decide, it's great to have specific memories of each campus."

Emily is a Psychology major, Religious Studies minor, from Wichita, KS. Emily says that she loves doing anything with her friends, from cooking, singing, and dancing to lounging in the sun. She's a Biology teachers assistant (for Biology labs), a consultant at the Writing Center, and a fan of our basketball team! Her favorite way to relax off campus is to head to downtown Portland in search of small stores and coffee shops.
