Interested in Being a Tour Guide?!

Job Description and Application

For many visitors, their campus tour is often the only individual student contact they experience. Campus tours provide a valuable "inside look" at the College.

Job Responsibilites:

A campus tour serves three purposes. The first is simple: to show people what facilities are available to students.  The second is less obvious but even more important: to help students get to know the kind of people they’ll meet on the Lewis & Clark campus.  And the third is to discover if the College is a good “fit” for them.  The first purpose will take care of itself as the tour goes on (as long as you follow the route).  The second and third purposes are up to you.  That is why we list at each location along the tour route, a list of topics and facts for you to share about yourself.  The most interesting way for students to learn about L&C is through personal anecdotes from their friendly tour guide—just remember to present a balanced view of your experiences.

Every tour guide is scheduled to give ONE weekly tour and to serve as a back-up guide for ONE tour per week. You must be available for both your regularly scheduled time and for your back-up time. If you cannot give your weekly tour, it is your responsibility to find a replacement guide. If you cannot find a replacement, you must notify the Admissions Interns 24 hours in advance of your tour time.

Tour guides may be asked to give special tours for small group visits if available and are expected to give tours during April Open House (Saturday, April 18th).

All campus tours depart from the Frank Manor House. Please show up at least 10 minutes before your tour time.

Compensation for tour guides is $8.40 per tour given. Work-Study is preferred.

Selection is based on demonstrated interest, schedule availability, tour guide team balance, knowledge of the College, and verified good academic standing. Preference may be given to students who have been tour guides in the past.
