The Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) is responsible for leading the college efforts toward its commitment to a diverse and multicultural campus community. The office responding to the needs of our diverse student body by working with students, faculty, and staff to promote an inclusive campus climate, and by acting as an educational resource that prepares students to succeed in a heterogeneous and ever-changing society.

Programs and Activities

OMA provides and supports programs and services that include the following:

  • Provide academic, social, and cultural support to students from underrepresented communities
  • Advise the Multicultural Clubs Consortium and support multicultural student organizations such as Black Student Union, Gente Latina Unida, Native Student Union, Asian Student Union, and Hawai’i Club; partner with other student organizations such as United Sexualities, Greater Portland Hillel, and the Womyn's Center 
  • Facilitate a monthly community discussion about a variety of current events and hot topics related to diversity, inclusion, and social justice.
  • Foster community engagement and educational on topics of diversity, inclusion, social justice and cultural competency through the Pluralism and Unity Project, a student-lead programming board.
  • Assist in the organization of Heritage Months: Native American & Alaska Native Heritage Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, Black History Month, and Asian American Heritage Month; and many other campus programs. 
  • Collaborate with the Office of Admissions on recruitment activities designed to increase student diversity on campus
  • Partner with Ethnic Studies Program, Campus Living, The Center for Career & Community Engagement, International Students and Scholars, and Student Transitions Experiences to connect students with additional academic and social networks.
  • Serve as a connection between the local Portland communities and Lewis & Clark faculty, students and staff
  • Participate in special events: let us know if you have an idea for an event on campus.  We would love to partner with you!
Advising
The office serves in an advisory capacity for student organizations focusing on issues of community, diversity, and understanding, while assisting faculty and administrators with multicultural program development and individual student issues. For more information, please contact our office.
