Admissions Alumni Volunteers
Alumni Coordinators for Enrollment and Special Events Assistants
Lewis & Clark's admissions alumni volunteer program seeks to connect and train alumni throughout the country to assist the Admissions Office in attracting bright, diverse, and motivated students to the College. The goal of the program is to increase the amount of personal contact that prospective students have with L&C.
The Admissions Office takes one of the College's most valuable resources -- our alumni -- and orients them to admissions process and puts them in touch with prospective students. Though the Internet, published college guides, and snazzy brochures may be wonderful tools in the college search process, the single most important source of information for a student deciding about college is the direct, personal contact that he or she has with people from that institution. The relationship formed through formal and informal contacts with parents, friends, alumni, and students can truly make a difference in choosing between "College X" and Lewis & Clark.
Admissions alumni volunteers assist the College by attending and helping with: - College fairs
- Interviews
- Receptions
- Contacting admitted students to say congratulations
- Recommending L&C to high school students
- Encouraging other alumni to help with the admissions process
The admissions alumni volunteer program is divided into two levels: Area Coordinators for Enrollment (ACEs) and Special Events Assistants (SEAs). Since its inception in 1985, the ACE/SEA Program has been a vital component in the admissions process and a valuable asset to the College as a whole.
ACEs are regional alumni coordinators. They serve as a main contact person for prospective students and other alumni who are eager to help. ACEs are provided training at a biannual ACE Conference and receive regular communication and updates from the Admissions Office. How much of a time commitment does it take to be an ACE? What an ACE does really depends on how much time you have available, the specific needs of an area, and how many other alums are available to help. During some months ACE activities may take 2-5 hours and during other months the time commitment will be very limited. See the ACE Activities and Expectations timeline for more details.
The second level of the admissions alumni volunteer program includes the Special Events Assistants or SEAs. SEAs are alumni who have expressed an interest in helping out with a few tasks during the year. SEAs help to cover college fairs, contact students, and assist the ACEs with other responsibilities.
