I love being outside! I used to live on the "Outdoor Pursuits" floor in Howard, and it was great. I participate in College Outdoors and the Paddle Club, and love to go kayaking, skiing, backpacking, and climbing.
While many L&C students are outdoorsy types like myself, I really like how many other kinds of people there are here too. Meeting new people is always fun, and there are so many with different experiences and backgrounds here.
I think that one of the most important parts of the college selection process is an overnight stay. I used to host prospective students in my room overnight, and I think that it allowed me to give them a perspective on the vibe of the school and whether it is a good fit for them. I enjoy a very active lifestyle. Participating on the swim team for the last two years has proven to be one of my favorite things about college. It pulls together a group of students from all different areas of study, and we're all friends. Additionally, I've done a few College Outdoors programs (though I'd like to do more), and I love hiking, skiing, and going for walks around campus (rain or shine). Oh yeah, the campus--it's BEAUTIFUL. Also, you can tell that everyone truly appreciates the sunny days when we have them, because everyone is sitting outside on the grass.
I love the people here--every new class I take or event I attend, I meet someone new and interesting. There are lots of opportunities to spend time with friends drawing, writing, cooking, playing piano, or just hanging out. L&C feels right for me, and I think that's the most important thing to keep in mind when people go through the college search process. Don't stress about it too much, and just find a place that feels right. Oh, and if you do decide to go to L&C? DEFINITELY sign up to go on a pre-orientation College Outdoors trip. You won't regret it!
