If your application file is incomplete:
1. Communication about the completeness of your application will be made via e-mail. Make sure you include a valid e-mail address on your application, and that admiss@lclark.edu is on your approved incoming e-mail list so that our messages to you don't bounce.
2. To find out exactly which credentials have been received, check your file online using the L&C I.D. number and password that were mailed to you. Use a lower-case LC at the beginning of your ID number when logging in. (i.e. lc00000). Note that it is a lower-case “L,” not the number “One.”
3. Make sure your teacher recommendation is from someone who taught you in a solid subject course (i.e. math, science, English, social studies, foreign language). Recommendations from fine arts teachers, forensics and athletics coaches and others may be submitted in addition to the required recommendations, but do not take their place.
4. First-year applicant recommendations should be from teachers who taught you in 11th or 12th grade. Transfer recommendations should be from instructors who taught you in a college-level course.
5. If you are applying via the portfolio path, take another look at the portfolio path requirements. Make sure your portfolio and extra recommendations fulfill the requirements listed.
6. We require the first marking period grades from your senior year as part of a First-year Regular Decision application. First quarter, trimester, or semester grades will fulfill this requirement.
7. We realize that seventh semester high school grades are not always available by February 1. We are happy to accept them as soon as they are available. Make sure you request an updated transcript as soon as your first marking period ends.
8. SAT and ACT scores may be reported directly from testing services (SAT Code 4384; ACT Code 3464),or via school officials. We accept scores reported on the counselor report form and on school transcripts.
9. Our fax number is 503-768-7055. We will accept credentials (including transcripts and SAT/ACT scores) faxed directly from a school official.
10. If you contact us via phone or e-mail about your incomplete file, please make sure to include your full name and your hometown in your message. When leaving a voice message, speak clearly and include the spelling of your last name.
11. Send e-mail questions regarding your file directly to your admissions counselor. See this list of counselors and their geographic responsibilities.
12. Credentials sometimes cross in the mail with the letter that states that your file is incomplete. If you have made every effort to complete your application in a timely manner, the admissions committee will take your efforts into consideration.
13. Sometimes a credential has been mailed or faxed but does not make it into your file. Someday a black hole will be discovered where millions of missing teacher recommendations, lonely socks, and empty ballpoint pen caps reside. Until someone finds that black hole, we do our best not to become frustrated. Help us by remembering that, most of the time, missing credentials are not the fault of a lazy counselor or incompetent admissions office. The fastest way to solve the problem is to get another copy to the College as soon as possible.
14. If your file is completed late (past the February 1 first-year application deadline), it is possible that your decision will reach you after the April 1 notification date. Our May 1 reply date will not be extended in this situation.
