2008-2009 Admissions Intern Job Description

The Office of Admissions is currently accepting applications for three student intern positions for the 2008-2009 academic year.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR EXPERIENCE

Admissions internships provide excellent experience for students wishing to pursue careers in fields such as non-profit management, higher education administration, special events planning, and public relations. Experience will be gained in the following areas:

• College admissions processes

• Event planning

• Web site management

• Office machines, software use, and familiarity with office procedures

• Publicity and public relations

• Volunteer recruitment and management

QUALIFICATIONS

Any student wishing to be considered should meet the following qualifications:

• Must be a full-time undergraduate student enrolled for the 2008-2009 year

• Must be in good academic standing (will be verified through the Registrar’s office)

• Must exemplify good campus citizenry

• Must have a flexible schedule to accommodate a minimum of six scheduled hours of work per week, anticipating number of hours to increase during peak times in the admissions office

• Must be available for Admissions Events in October, November, February, and April (dates TBA)

• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Must have demonstrated leadership and organizational abilities

• Must have an interest in and desire to learn more about the admissions process

• Must be willing to attend all tour guide trainings and fill-in as a tour guide, overnight host, or lunch host whenever necessary

• Must be able to work as an effective team member with other student leaders, student volunteers, and professional staff

• Will preferably live on-campus for the 2008-2009 year (no more than one intern may live off campus during the school year)

• Must be able to return to campus for intern training in August (arrangements will be made for you to check into the residence halls on this date)

COMPENSATION

Although workload may vary from month to month, student interns will earn a salary of $262.50 per month, for a total of $2,100 per year. Valuable professional experience as a campus leader in a position of great responsibility should also be considered a benefit of these positions.

APPLICATIONS

To be considered for an intern position, please submit a cover letter, resume, and completed application to the Manor House by 5pm on Friday, March 14, 2008. Position descriptions and applications are available online or at the reception desk in the Manor House. Interviews will take place from March 17-21, 2008. When turning in your application, be sure to sign up for a 30-minute interview slot.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Selected interns will be expected to participate at April Open House on Saturday, April 12, 2008. Additional training days in April will be determined upon acceptance of intern position.
