Jing "Lacy" Lan Guilin, China Economics
My favorite thing about L&C is the beautiful scenery. This campus is gorgeous! Even as an Economics major, I have time to be creative and participate in the Dance Extravaganza and choir, and Acting was my favorite class.
I also have a few jobs on campus, including math tutor, campus tour guide, and phonathon caller. When I have some free time from all of those things, I love to read (Anne of Green Gables is my favorite book), sing, dance, and play the piano.

I'm one of many Third Culture Kids (TCKs) at Lewis & Clark, and I have to say that it's a lot of fun. I was born in Maine, but grew up in Yungaburra, Australia as well as California. L&C's reputation for internationalism fits very well with my background and academic interests. I also participated in the Fall 07 Cuba trip, which was an amazing opportunity that very few American students can have.
On campus, I like reading, photography, hula hooping, and drawing, as well as getting outside for camping, backpacking, swimming and diving, and traveling in general. I think our beautiful campus (especially the view of the gardens from the top floor of the library) is my favorite thing about L&C. It's amazing! This campus is a very peaceful place. I think my favorite thing about it is the bridge through the forest between the residence halls and the academic side of campus. It makes you feel like you are in the middle of a forest, a million miles from anything. When I was a prospective student, I had to visit in order to get a feel for the school. It worked better than any catalog or website could.
Between my abroad trip to Cuba in the fall of 2007 and my experiences living in Africa, I'm planning to do Peace Corps after I graduate. Their representatives come to class frequently, and I think that it's a testament to the L&C community that so many interested students show up. The people here want to change the world and make it better for everyone. I hope I can help.
