 John is a native of Mississippi, along with the likes of Elvis Presley and the Delta Blues. Thanks to his birthplace and frequent trips to visit family in New Orleans, he developed an early infatuation with music and culture that has taken him around the U.S. and abroad. John’s winding road to Lewis & Clark began when he went off to Virginia to attend the University of Richmond. After life changing experiences studying rhythm and culture in Ghana and India, John joined a rock and roll band and headed west to Portland in 2001. In order to support his serious music habit, John began working in secondary education and discovered another passion; working with students. He is very excited to continue his work with dynamic youth as they take this exciting (and often scary) step in life.
In his free time, John loves spending time with his girlfriend, Lauren; watching the Daily Show with the other Jon Stewart, and being exposed to new music and new cultures. He considers himself the unofficial goodwill ambassador of Mississippi, and a lifelong advocate for cross-cultural experience and the arts. He can still be seen indulging his music habit with various bands around Portland.
