Enjoy extracurricular activities while you can! In my freshman year, I participated in crew, symphony, choir, and as an Admissions intern. Back then, I also got to live on the Performing Arts floor of Platt Hall, which was great.

As a junior now, I struggle to find time for those things. It balances out, though, because I really like my classes. Like many Econ majors, Advanced Microeconomics has been my favorite class. I do get some free time, though, and I generally like to spend it biking around Portland, reading, cooking, backpacking, and visiting family and friends whenever possible.

In the spring of 2008, I participated in the Vietnam overseas program, so I’ve been studying that language in addition to French.

The best thing about L&C is its size. You get to learn from engaging professors teaching small classes, but somehow you still meet new people all the time.

I love being musical - singing with Momo and the Coop (one of L&C's a cappella groups), Cappella Nova (the college choir), taking voice lessons, and playing the piano. I also work as a tutor in the Math Skills Center, volunteer as an Admissions tour guide, and enjoy being a member of the L&C Juggling Club and the Math Club! I've also been one of the Real Life bloggers, so feel free to read all about life at Lewis & Clark: Real Life at LC!

When I actually have free time, I play piano in the practice rooms of the music building, juggle, hang out with friends, go out to eat, and sing!

Let me know if you have any questions about Lewis & Clark - I'd be happy to help!

Lewis & Clark has allowed me to combine several of my passions. I love playing guitar and writing songs (listen here), blogging, and Spanish. On campus, I sing in one of our several very talented a capella groups (Momo & The Coop). I also get to help out as a web assistant for New Media. Finally, I plan to go on the Dominican Republic program in the spring of 2010. The overseas programs that L&C has for Hispanic Studies and SOAN are really great.

I think that we are incredibly lucky to have such a close-knit community of students, faculty, and staff that help each other to learn and grow in amazing ways. I love that I can participate in any activity on campus that sounds interesting.

For any potential student, I would recommend that you visit campus and feel it out. There is no way to know for certain, but if you do an overnight stay you will get a good feel for the campus and its students and professors. The feelings you take away from a visit are more important than how the college looks on paper.

The opportunities at L&C are limitless. For instance, I've been participating in the Washington DC off-campus program this semester. My favorite time of year is registration, because I read the whole course catalog and look at all the classes that I want to take. I'm yet to take one that I didn't like -- some weren't quite what I expected, but all of the classes here are engaging and interesting.

Also, there are so many activities to choose from! I have participated in Students for Barack Obama, German Club, the Multicultural Symposium, Dance Extravaganza, our annual Lu'au, and ASLC (our student government organization). I also was a tutor at Roosevelt High School during my freshman year, and was an overnight host for the Admissions Office my first two years. This year, I will be a Campus Living Assistant in the residence halls.

I advise any prospective student to make a list of all the things that you (not your parents) think are really important in a school, and make sure that all the schools you are looking at check out. This probably shouldn't be on your list, but it's worth mentioning regardless -- the L&C dining hall serves ice cream at every meal. I'm just sayin'...
