Meet Kim Sackmann '04

Kim Sackmann grew up in Mead, Washington and now lives in DeKalb, Illinois where she attends Northern Illinois University Law School.

How has your experience as an Intern helped you to reach your goals?

It definitely helped me with time management. The hours for the job differ so much from month to month, that you really have to learn how to organize your time. It also helped me learn to work more with other people. I tend to work on my own, so working with two other interns was a great opportunity.

What did you enjoy most about the Internship?

My first year as an intern my favorite part was scheduling. I thought it was really fun figuring out which classes would be best, what the prospective student would enjoy, etc. My second year, I really enjoyed working with the overnight hosts. It had its difficult moments, but I had a great group of hosts!

Do you have any advice for future admissions volunteers and Interns?

Make sure you have room in your schedule! In the Spring it is a really demanding job. I would recommend applying to be an intern for your sophomore or junior year...trying to finish up school (thesis, 400 level courses, etc.) is really time consuming.

What was your favorite thing about Lewis and Clark?

My favorite thing was probably the relationships with faculty members. I was given the opportunity to work on a few research projects, worked on faculty committees, invited to professors homes, and had professors attend my dance/theater performances. It is just so amazing looking back, realizing how much the professors at L&C really care about their students!!!
