Life in the west: While all my friends stayed back east to go to college, I wanted to do something different, so I came out west—and I love it! The people here seem to maintain a healthy balance between focusing on goals and just focusing on life. It’s a great environment, and it has been a good change for me.

Life in the halls: There’s nothing that will spark a better conversation than sharing a pizza at 1 a.m. with the people in your residence hall. We all have the pizza number memorized, and there’s always someone around to share one with. Your first year in the residence hall is about making friends and personal growth and learning to share space. But it’s also about potluck dinners and discovering new music through your roommate and pickup games of Frisbee. I loved my experience in Odell so much that I became a resident assistant my second year.

Life without Greeks: Having no fraternities or sororities is really nice, because the lines dividing groups are much more blurry. There’s a lot of social freedom and independence.

Evidence of life: When I look back on my college days, I want to be able to say that I did something for the school and made my mark. As director of New Student Orientation this year, I hope I’ve done that by helping a few new students get excited about school, feel comfortable, and have as much fun as I’ve had.
