“Internships are the perfect way to blend the learning-for-learning’s-sake liberal arts education with real-world professional experience,” says Liz Hummer ’04. Liz ought to know--she managed to blend several communications internships into her four years at Lewis & Clark.
With a little experience and a lot of encouragement from one of her professors, Liz landed her first internship at a local newspaper group at the end of her sophomore year. Three magazine internships followed, including a prized summer internship at a magazine in New York City and the first editorial internship offered by the Portland Monthly. “Lewis & Clark gave me the confidence to go after each opportunity feeling prepared for the real world,” says Liz, who recently became the editor of PDX Magazine.
