My name is Debbie Anholt, and I have been teaching here at Lewis & Clark for over 25 years. I love coming to work every day because the students are interesting and fun to teach. I understand the life of an international student because when I was young, I studied in different countries. I think travelling to different cultures and learning about different people is very valuable. I hope you will come to the USA to study English with us and learn about our culture!

I can't tell you which class is my favorite to teach because I like all of them. I especially like to have my students do volunteer projects around Portland so that they can see different aspects of our culture and meet many people outside of the Lewis & Clark community. Sometimes we do projects downtown, sometimes in the suburbs, and sometimes out in the forests. With each project we learn more and help somebody or help the environment. If you want to see how my English classes are organized, you can visit my homepage.

In my free time, I am with my family. Both of my children are young adults: Eric graduated from Lewis & Clark, and Katy from another university nearby. So I understand the lives of college students! My husband and I like to go camping in the beautiful mountains of Oregon or at the coast with our kids. We also work in our vegetable garden where we grow corn, tomatoes, carrots, pumpkins, and many other vegetables.

Please write to us for more information about the Academic English Program and Lewis & Clark! We hope you come here to study!
