Lewis & Clark Takes Center Stage in Dialogue About Faith-and-CultureLewis & Clark hosted the first screening on a college campus of a documentary exploring the collision of faith and culture in the United States, titled Lord, Save Us From Your Followers. Sponsored by the Christian student organization Agape and the chapel office, the showing brought together students and producer-director Dan Merchant for a conversation about the issues raised by the film. Senior Concludes Debate Career With International ChallengeSenior Eric Atcheson was one of three top college debaters from the United States selected to take on a team of Irish national debate champions at the opening assembly of the National Parliamentary Debate Association’s national championship in March. Bringing Immigration Policy to Life During Spring BreakWhile thousands of college students will spend their spring break at the beach, a group of students taking an immigration history course, U.S.-Mexico Borderlands, will be exploring the migration route between the two countries, documenting Oaxacan immigration to Oregon. Students Lead Political Discourse on CampusAs the nation trains its focus on the race for the Democratic presidential nomination and the remaining states on the primary calendar, Oregon readies itself what could be the most relevant primary in recent state history. Lewis & Clark students are among those preparing for the May 20th primary, as campus groups are engaged in discussions of how they can create the change they want to see in the leadership of the country. First SHEAR/Mellon Fellow Named from Lewis & ClarkRory Sullivan, a junior history major, has been awarded one of ten highly competitive fellowships to participate in a summer seminar at the University of Pennsylvania’s McNeil Center for the Study of Early America. As a SHEAR/Mellon (Society for Historians of the Early American Republic) fellow, Sullivan will receive a $2,000 research stipend, complimentary participation in the seminar, and the opportunity to mount research for his senior honors thesis at Lewis & Clark.
