August 7, 2008 College NewsLewis & Clark Honors Distinguished Alumni During Alumni Weekend 2008Lewis & Clark will honor five alumni for their outstanding achievements in service to their communities and the College at this year’s Alumni Honors Banquet. The annual banquet is part of Alumni Weekend and will take place on October 2. This year, Lewis & Clark will recognize Frank and Donna Lawrence ’52, William Feltz ’66, Satya Byock ’04, and Cyrus Partovi ’67, senior lecturer in social sciences. Lewis & Clark Joins Prestigious Group to Cultivate Young Leaders’ Interest in AsiaLewis & Clark has been invited by the Henry Luce Foundation to join 67 select colleges and universities across the country as participants in the Luce Scholars Program, which promotes awareness of Asia among potential leaders in American society. The prestigious invitation recognizes Lewis & Clark’s long-standing distinction in international education and growing reputation for preparing students to be future leaders. Chemistry Professor Receives NSF Grant for Nanoparticle WorkAnne Bentley, assistant professor of chemistry, has received a National Science Foundation Faculty Development Award in chemistry to support her work with nanoparticles. Throughout the next year, Bentley will use the $100,000 grant to integrate research, teaching, and service components of her work with microscopic fluorescent particles, which are similar to materials used in television screens. Her research has potential applications throughout the electronics industry.
