Workshop helps writers in danger

Poet Joseph Brodsky, who served time in a Soviet labor camp for his writings, observed, “… poets fare better in solitary confinement than do fiction writers, because their dependence on professional tools is marginal.” Lewis & Clark College’s Northwest Writing Institute offers a workshop on behalf of writers who, like Brodsky, have been persecuted for some aspect of their work. The ten-week course, which is open to the general public for either continuing education credit or no credit, begins Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006.
