Alumni Weekend Schedule

Enjoy awards dinners, homecoming events, and Alumni College lectures on campus during Alumni Weekend, October 18-21, 2007. Open to all alumni, this year's event features milestone reunions and special social activities for members of classes ending in "2" or "7" (i.e., 1982, 1987). Fulbright Winner Works to Prevent Domestic Violence

With the help of a Fulbright grant, Robin Young '07 is developing a project to break the cycle of domestic violence against women in the Dominican Republic. Her innovative work is likely to lead to internationally applicable approaches.

Rena Ratte Award for 2007

Emily McCartan '07, a double major in international affairs and religious studies, has been described by one professor as the embodiment of the liberal arts ideal. In recognition of her scholastic achievements and her positive impact on the world around her, McCartan won the 2007 Rena J. Ratte Award, the undergraduate college's highest academic honor.

Science Demystified

During summer brown-bag talks, student scientists in the John S. Rogers Science Research Program explain how biochemistry affects memory, new food sources may help endangered butterflies, and galaxies evolve. Each summer nearly 40 students collaborate with faculty members in fields including physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics and computer science.

Three Join Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees recently welcomed a construction company president, an international financier and an environmental and energy law attorney. Richard "Dick" Geary spent his 41-year career in construction with Kiewit Pacific Co. Martha Stein-Sochas is currently a director with the French Development Agency. Jay Waldron has practiced environmental and energy law with Schwabe, Williamson and Wyatt since 1974.
