Welcome to Lewis & Clark College's eNews, a monthly update of news and events at Lewis & Clark College. We send eNews to alumni, parents, and friends of the campus community. College NewsAlumni Weekend 2005 schedule postedAlumni Weekend is a chance to reconnect for your reunion or to gather at campus-wide homecoming events. The schedule for Alumni Weekend 2005 is complete and registration is available. The full schedule has links to useful information such as the web page for the Mates of State who will be playing on Saturday night. Classes ending in 0 or 5 (e.g. 1960. 1965, etc.) will be celebrating milestone reunions, and class web pages with photos and details can now be accessed through the Alumni Weekend homepage. Satya Byock's '04 volunteer efforts profiled in Washington PostTwo months after the Dec. 26 calamity in South Asia, equipped with high hopes and $13,000 in donations, Satya Byock '04 made her way to Komari, a remote fishing and farming community on Sri Lanka's east coast. Here, she joined forces with several other volunteers in an ad hoc recovery effort.
President Hochstettler featured as guest columnist in OregonianPresident Hochstettler was recently featured as a guest columnist in the Oregonian. President Hochstettler's piece titled "The educational consequences of accessibility" focused upon the gap in earning power between college and high school graduates and the concern of higher education's accessibility to all people.
U.S. Ambassador Niels Marquardt '75 makes chimpanzee protection a priorityNiels Marquardt, the U.S. Ambassador for the Republics of Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea, spent the Memorial Day weekend with his wife and two daughters and 38 chimpanzees in the remote Mbargue forest in eastern Cameroon. The Marquardt family visited the IDA-Africa's Sanaga-Yong Chimpanzee Rescue Center, the first and only primate care facility of its kind in Cameroon, where they learned about the impact the illegal commercial bushmeat trade is having on Cameroon’s remaining wild chimpanzee population. Ransmeier named new CFODenis Sirera Ransmeier, vice president for finance and investments at Seattle University, has been named as the new vice president for business and finance and treasurer of Lewis & Clark College. Ransmeier, 57, has been Seattle University’s vice president for finance and investments since 1986. Under his leadership, the university’s endowment fund grew from $21.5 million in 1986 to $159 million in 2004.
