Scientist’s Gecko Research Leads to New Medical TechnologyRecovering from surgery could get a bit easier thanks to an “internal Band-Aid” inspired by the research of Associate Professor of Biology Kellar Autumn. His discoveries regarding the nanostructures that make gecko feet sticky helped researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology engineer the new medical tool. Innovative Partnership to Reduce Lewis & Clark's Carbon FootprintIn an effort to expand its use of alternative energies, Lewis & Clark is partnering with Honeywell International, a technology and manufacturing company, to supply the campus sports facility with solar power. The partnership is the first of its kind for a college or university in Oregon. Mellon Grant to Bring Postdoctoral Fellows to CampusA $450,000 grant will bring postdoctoral fellows to Lewis & Clark for the next few years in a program designed to bring fresh perspectives and new voices to campus. The grant, from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, will support two postdoctoral fellowships in the humanities per year beginning in the fall of 2008.
