Josef Joffe speaks at 133rd commencement

Scholar Josef Joffe, publisher and editor of the German weekly Die Zeit and a contributing editor to Time magazine, will address graduates at the College of Arts and Sciences commencement on Sunday, May 8, at 10 a.m.

Professor Andrew Cortell selected as teacher of the year

Students at Lewis & Clark College have chosen Andrew Cortell, assistant professor of international affairs, as teacher of the year. The selection was announced Wednesday, April 13, during an afternoon ceremony on campus. Cortell has been with Lewis & Clark since 1999.

Students pick up national honors: Udall and Goldwater scholarships

Brian Erickson '06, from Kirkwood, Mo., is among 320 students nationwide to be named a 2005 Barry M. Goldwater scholar. The purpose of the Foundation is to provide a continuing source of highly qualified scientists, mathematicians, and engineers by awarding scholarships to college students who intend to pursue careers in these fields.

Biology majors Sasha Stortz '06 and Brian Erickson '06 have received 2005 Morris K. Udall scholarships. The Lewis & Clark College students are two of 81 students nationwide to receive the $5,000 award. The Morris K. Udall Foundation awards 80 undergraduate scholarships to juniors and seniors in fields related to the environment and to Native American and Alaskan natives in fields related to health care or tribal policy.

Hochstettler speaks before City Club of Portland

Lewis & Clark President Tom Hochstettler joined fellow presidents from Reed College and the University of Portland for a program at the Portland City Club. The Friday Forum program was titled "New Presidents, New Priorities: Taking Private Education to a Higher Degree." The presentation is available online, by visiting the Friday Forum web site.
