Adam Kowalski '07 Wins Prestigious Truman Scholarship

Adam Kowalski has been named a 2007 Truman Scholar, one of the most prestigious awards available to undergraduates nationwide. Kowalski, a double major in computer science and physics, plans to use the $30,000 scholarship to pursue a career in which he can shape how the government uses and regulates science and technology.

Former PacifiCorp CEO Judith Johansen named Board Chair

Judith Johansen, former president and CEO of PacifiCorp, has been named Chair of the Board of Trustees of Lewis & Clark College. Johansen, a graduate of Lewis & Clark Law School, will be the first woman to chair the institution's board when she assumes the position later this month.

Religious Studies Professor Named Teacher of the Year

Students have named Rob Kugler, Paul S. Wright Professor of Christian Studies, teacher of the year. "Rob brings contagious passion and interest to everything he does, from his courses to his conversations with individual students," said one student who nominated Kugler.

Education leader Vivian Gussin Paley to speak at 135th commencement

Vivian Gussin Paley - the only teacher to ever win a MacArthur Foundation "genius" grant - will speak at Lewis & Clark College's 135th commencement on Sunday, May 6. Paley, who has taught for 37 years primarily at the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools, has won many awards for her books about life in the classroom.

Students Recognized by Goldwater Foundation

Three students have earned honors from the Barry M. Goldwater Foundation for their academic leadership in science. These students have taken the knowledge they've gained in the classroom into national laboratories and remote parts of the world helping to unravel important scientific questions.
