Record attendance at Alumni Weekend 2006

More than 900 alumni visited campus in October to attend Alumni Weekend. The gathering featured a variety of events, including the Alumni Honors Banquet, the fourth annual Tailgate Extravaganza, and class year receptions. The homecoming game was marked by the dedication of the playing surface as Fred Wilson Field. Mark your calendars: Alumni Weekend 2007 is tentatively scheduled for October 19-21!

Lewis & Clark Law School Small Business Legal Clinic

The Law School's Small Business Legal Clinic is a creative public-private partnership with the City of Portland and other sponsors to offer a comprehensive range of services to underrepresented members of the Portland's business community. The clinic, which opened in October, also provides invaluable hands-on experience for business law students.

Faculty named Oregon Book Award finalists

Three faculty members of Lewis & Clark’s College of Arts and Sciences have been named as finalists for the 2006 Oregon Book Awards. The finalists are Vern Rutsala, professor emeritus of English, Justin Tussing, visiting assistant professor of English, and Andrew Bernstein, associate professor of history. The book awards are presented each December by Oregon Literary Arts.

Focusing the nation on global warming

Eban Goodstein believes the time to act is now. Goodstein, professor of economics, is using his sabbatical to help create a broad-based awareness for the dangers of global warming by serving as project director for Focus the Nation, a nationwide one-day symposium titled "Stabilizing the Climate in the 21st Century."
