Alumni Weekend a Success

Alumni, friends, and family visited campus in October to attend Alumni Weekend. The gathering featured a variety of events, including the Alumni Honors Banquet, the fifth annual Tailgate Extravaganza, and class receptions. This year alumni mingled with students at OMSI for a evening of dancing, exploring, and learning. Mark your calendars: Alumni Weekend 2008 is tentatively scheduled for October 2-5! See Alumni Weekend photos.

Travel to Support L&C Students

Does it matter where you book your travel? Yes, it does matter. Not only to you, but also to Lewis & Clark College. The /Board of Alumni/ recently sponsored the creation of a travel booking web-site. A portion of the travel commissions you generate will given to Lewis & Clark for student scholarships and other alumni-student projects. And you'll still be getting a great deal on all things you purchase: airfare, cruises, hotels, rental cars, vacation packages, and more. Bookmark this opportunity at YTB Travel

While working on an independent study project in a biology lab at Lewis & Clark College, Rebecca Duncan B.A. '06 made a discovery that may someday find its way into kitchens and onto battlefields. Studying two groups of spiders that stick sand to themselves as a means of camouflage, Duncan discovered that they had developed the same hair structures that act as an adhesive. Read more here.

Raising the Green Torch

Lewis & Clark senior David Norse is raising awareness about Focus the Nation, an initiative to discuss global warming solutions nationwide. Graduate School Journal Examines School Inequalities

Mounting inequality in American schools is examined in the newest issue of the Graduate School's journal, Democracy & Education. This journal features a lead interview with education activist Jonathan Kozol, who recently spoke in Portland at a Graduate school event, and the observations of 10 authors who reconnect with Kozol's influential philosophies and examine why American schools today suffer from more inequality than they did 15 years ago. Read more about the journal and Kozol's packed lecture in Portland.
