College NewsSymposium examines fate of environmentalismTwo years ago, Michael Shellenberger and Ted Nordhaus declared environmentalism to be dead. That provocative idea has been expanded in a soon-to-be released book. The duo deliver the keynote address at Lewis & Clark's ninth annual Environmental Affairs Symposium titled Beyond Environmentalism? Debating New Ideas and Strategies. The symposium takes place October 2 through 4. L&C+U=L&C2beFor the first time in more than 20 years, the Lewis & Clark community has engaged in a collegewide planning process to help shape the institution's future direction. Science faculty receive grantsLewis & Clark's reputation in science research continues to grow. Recently, three members of the science faculty received standout awards and grants that recognize and support their work. Learn more about Greta Binford, assistant professor of biology, Deborah Lycan, professor of biology, and Nikolaus Loening, assistant professor of chemistry. Peer behind Oregon's immigration storyAlejandra Favela is passionate when talking about immigration issues. "I don't believe we can effectively work with immigrant students and communities without understanding the broader economic and political forces that impact immigration policy and the social organizations that work with these populations," she says. Favela, assistant professor of education at Lewis & Clark's Graduate School of Education and Counseling, guides a discussion of the immigrant story on Thursday, October 5.
