Shahzeb Jillani '94 Radio Editor of BBC Urdu
Nominated to receive the Outstanding Young Alumnus Award
Jillani graduated in 1994 with a B.S. in International Affairs. He returned to his native Pakistan after graduation and worked for Bhutto's party. He later became a journalist and for the past several years has been BBC's Urdu Language editor working out of London. This year he was recently posted to Washington DC for a one-year assignment for the BBC. His articles are carried in BBC publications.
Shahzeb will receive the award at the Alumni Honors Banquet on October 18, 2007.
E. Ward Plummer '62 Director of the Tennessee Advanced Materials Laboratory
Nominated to receive the Distinguished Alumni Award
Dr. Plummer graduated with a BA in Physics, and went on to earn the Ph.D. in Physics at Cornell University. He is a member of the National Science Foundation and the recipient of a 1986 Guggenheim Fellowship. In addition, he has received numerous honors and awards in his academic field. At last count, he has authored or co-authored more than 300 publications. Plummer is with the University of Tennessee, where he is Director of the Tennessee Advanced Materials Laboratory.
Ward will receive the award at the Alumni Honors Banquet on October 18, 2007.
Patrick Hibbard '52 Former President and CEO of two Portland printing companies
Nominated to receive the Donald G. Balmer Citation
Hibbard graduated from Lewis and Clark College with a B.S. degree in Business. He is the retired President and CEO of two Portland printing companies. He is active in the Class Scholarship program, and has provided generously to the Class of 1952 scholarship. Mr. Hibbard has been a tireless volunteer for the College, providing crucial support for the development of the Albany Society, and serving as that organization's first chair. He remains on the Albany Society Board of Directors, and has been an active member of the Board of Alumni since 2003.
Pat will receive the citation at the Alumni Honors Banquet on October 18, 2007.
David LaFrance '86 Director of Finance for Denver Water
Nominated to receive the Pioneer Alumni Leadership Award
David graduated from Lewis and Clark in 1986 with a BS in Economics. He has been a member of the Board of Alumni for the past seven years, the last two of which he has served as the President of the Board of Alumni and an exofficio member of the Board of Trustees.
Since graduating from Lewis and Clark, David has professionally been involved in the economics and finances of water. Currently he is the director of finance for Denver Water one of the largest municipal water providers in the nation. He received his M.B.A. from the University of Colorado in 1992. He belongs to the American Water Works Association, and is the past chair of the Rates and Charges Subcommittee. He is also an instructor for the AWWA Financial Planning: Cost of Service Rate Setting Seminar.
David married Justine Miani (Lewis & Clark Class of 1986 - math), and they have a daughter Sierra and a son Devon.
David will receive the award at the Alumni Honors Banquet on October 18, 2007.
